FAQs
How Big Are Maine Coons Compared to European Maine Coon Sizes?
Maine Coons have long been regarded as one of the largest domesticated cat breeds, with huge size and a lovable, friendly attitude. Adult male Maine Coons can weigh 15– 25 lbs (or more) and females 10–15 lbs. But European Maine Coons (of pure European descent), rooted in hearty bloodlines emphasizing size and structure, are generally a little bigger: Males may weigh 25 pounds or more, and females 15 pounds or more. These European lines often are more “wild” in appearance, sporting larger ear tufts and a chunkier frame.
We Breed the World’s Largest Maine Coons
We have built on the Maine Coon’s natural appetite for size at our cattery. For years now, we’ve carefully set our best parents together with others who have great bone structure, strong muscle, and healthy growth patterns. Thanks to this selective breeding, we’re happy to report we have males weighing up to 35 lbs without sacrificing general health or ability.
Selective Breeding for Size and Health
Pedigree Analysis: Prior to breeding, we conduct an extensive review of the genetics of each cat to determine lineages that have a history of larger-sized or larger-built cats with long bodies.
Equilibrium Pairing: We pair felines who’ve been carefully selected for their strong chin, broad chest, big paws and the whole vast physicality, guaranteeing that these significant features are passed on for the subsequent years.
Gradual, Natural Growth: Although Maine Coons are naturally very large cats, the growth rate we encourage is healthy and slow instead of jeopardizing the well-being of any of our cats by promoting swift weight gain. It is absolutely vital to our furry friends well-being to be fed complete meals with only whole, fresh foods. Good nutrition is the cornerstone of good health for a cat — particularly as they get bigger, Varley notes. High-Quality Proteins: The majority of our cats’ diets consist of lean meats including turkey, chicken and fish, offering key amino acids for building muscle.
Healthy Fats: Oils from omega-rich fish and other natural fats keep coats shiny and support joint health, which is particularly important for larger cats.
Necessary Supplements: Vet-approved vitamins and minerals, such as taurine, calcium, and glucosamine for cardiac function, bone strength, and joint mobility are included.
Fresh also allows us to stay on top of every cat’s general health so we can adjust the diet if we catch the early signs of weight problems or deficiencies in nutrients. This method keeps them lean, strong, and energized — even with their impressive scale.
All in the Name of Heart & Hip Health
As a breed we know that Maine Coons, specifically large-breed lines, have a predisposition to specific health challenges. And that’s why we make sure our kittens and breeding cats are healthy for a lifetime.
Regular Cardiac Screenings :
We offer echocardiograms performed by board-certified veterinary cardiologists and listen closely for any signs of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM).
Regular check-ups—typically once a year—enables us to detect problems early potential and address them quickly.
Hip & Joint Evaluations:Our vets routinely evaluate our cats for hip laxity, signs of hip dysplasia, or any other signs our cats may have joint issues.
We monitor all cats’ mobility — striving to keep them active, but also comfortable and with plenty of safe exercise opportunities.
Light Exercise & Play:
Our Maine Coons can be rather large, so we promote a mix of playtime, climbing, and light exercise. This keeps them within a healthy weight range, which will support good joint function as they grow.
Compassion & Care in All We Do
Above all, our cats are truly loved by us. We recognize that even though size can be a stunning characteristic, it’s their character and wellness that genuinely define them as “gentle giants.” Our kittens are handled daily from birth and are exposed to various toys, sounds and experiences to develop confident, loving temperaments. We do not rush the growing process and do not irresponsible breed for size only.” Rather, each phase of our program from parent pairing to final kitten placement is managed with a deep respect for the breed in mind. We take the most happiness by seeing our kittens flourish in their permanent homes, filling every home with love, playfulness and a quite grand presence!
